Mazda CX-5 at SDM Group

As well as rugged attractiveness and off-road reliability, the Mazda CX-5 stands out in the mid-size SUV market for its everyday usability, low running costs and safety features. The model has been updated for 2015 featuring improved levels of standard equipment such well as LED lights, integrated navigation system with 3-years free European map updates and enhanced optional safety measures for higher trim levels.

Small wonder, then, that this model won the 2015 and 2016 What Car? Award for “Best Large SUV under £25,000”, with the magazine acclaiming Mazda CX-5 as “spacious, practical, good-value, efficient, comfortable, and with a spark of entertainment to the way it drives”. Sophisticated KODO design

As a mid-size SUV, Mazda CX-5 is built with visual hints to both sports car agility and SUV confidence. It’s crafted using Mazda’s exciting and innovative design language– KODO: Soul of Motion – resulting in smooth and flowing lines that show the vehicle’s power in a subtle yet striking way.

The trademark five point grille, sharp “eagle-eyed” headlights and long bonnet give an early indication of the powerful and exhilarating driving experience to come, whilst the flowing lines underline Mazda CX-5’s dynamic qualities. Meanwhile the drag coefficient of 0.33 make the Mazda CX-5 one of the most aerodynamic SUVs on the market – an attribute that aids both performance and efficiency in the same way as the vehicle’s relatively light kerb weight. Stunning 17” alloy wheels round off the look of the car admirably, in addition to providing excellent grip and traction. Sport Nav models feature 19” Gunmetal alloy wheels along with LED headlights for even greater visibility and road presence.

Capable SKYACTIV petrol or diesel engines

The 2.0 litre SKYACTIV-G petrol or 2.2 litre SKYACTIV-D diesel engines featured on Mazda CX-5 provide a combination of performance and low running costs. Careful engineering and creative innovations make both powertrains a blend of responsiveness, refinement and economy with few equals.

All models in the Mazda CX-5 line-up feature Mazda’s innovative i-stop system – one of the reasons for the vehicle’s exceptionally low CO2 emissions. This system places the engine on standby when stationary in traffic, instantly restarting as soon as you are ready to go, meaning that urban congestion and traffic jams will not cost you more in fuel or increase your carbon output unnecessarily.

Supplying 165PS and maximum torque of 210Nm, the SKYACTIV-G petrol is linked to a six-speed manual transmission that offers a seamless response when increasing speed and manages 0-62mph acceleration in 9.2 seconds. At the same time, its combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures of 47.1mpg and 139g/km are impressively low for a petrol engine powering an SUV.

The SKYACTIV-D diesel engines in 150PS or 175PS also deliver low running costs. The most economical of all, the 150PS with 2WD and manual transmission, returns combined fuel consumption of 61.4mpg and CO2 emissions of just 119g/km, meaning that owners of this model only pay £30 of Vehicle Excise Duty a year. This engine also matches the petrol unit’s 0-62mph acceleration figure of 9.2 seconds, with the more powerful AWD 175PS (available on Sport Nav models only) achieving the same feat in 8.8 seconds.

Full marks for safety and security
